It is in Thong Sala that all of the businesses on the island do their main shopping, so there are many grocery stores, banks, utility shops and shops for locals as well as gift shops and clothing boutiques.
There are plenty of bargains to be had so make sure that you barter in a friendly manner.
Koh Phangan is well known for its jewellery and you will see silverware decorated with a white coral called Shiva’s eye, which is the common name that refers to the operculum which is a natural lid that fits over the opening of the shells of marine and freshwater gastropods. This is also a great place to invest in a trusty hammock, mosquito net and some citronella spray, to set you up for the adventures ahead.
